MENTORSHIP FOLLOW UP

Dear Mentees and Mentors,

Thank you so much for vibing with us at our Summer 2024 VIBRANT Mentorship night! We hope you enjoyed the event and made valuable connections.

I sent an email to all who attended last week but thought posting here for those who visit would cover more bases. Check your email to see if it landed in one of those other folders where it gets lost into the abyss.

Hope you all are connecting with one another via LinkedIN or the Vibrant app. All mentors with contact info was shared with you as an attached PDF.

Below is follow-up guidance to keep the VIBRANT vibes vibrating and help you maximize the value of your mentorship experience.

MENTEE:

The doors are wide open for you to venture out and connect with any mentor on the list attached to learn more or seek advice on challenges you’re facing. Choose one that you’ve already vibed with at the event and/or follow up with others.

Best Practices

• Venture Forward: Send a message via LinkedIn, Vibrant app or email to a mentor outlining what you’d like to discuss. Include a few times and dates you’re available for a video call (VC).

• Verify and Schedule: Once your mentor confirms a date, follow up with a 30-minute VC invite. Verify which platform works best (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams) as some companies have restrictions.

• Visualize the Future: If the first meeting vibes well, schedule another 30-minute call a month later. Visualize a 6-month mentorship period if it feels right.

• Be Vibrant: It’s up to you, the mentee, to initiate and plan the meetings. Any long-term mentorship is at the discretion of both parties. There’s no expectation from VIBRANT to establish a mentor relationship—it’s entirely up to you.

Pro Tips

• Vivid Expectations: Understand that your mentor is there to guide, not dictate. Come prepared with specific questions or discussion topics.

• Vigorously Prepare: Plan and set up meetings, creating an agenda based on your needs. Consider sending a brief bulleted outline a few days in advance, allowing your mentor to prepare insights or guidance. It’s okay to discuss sensitive topics during the call if you prefer not to document them.

• Vow to Take Ownership: Your development is your responsibility. Be clear about what you want and ask for what you need.

• Value Trust: Open communication is key. Be honest and receptive to feedback.

• Stay Versatile: Be willing to hear your mentor’s honest opinions and consider different perspectives.

• Vibe & Evaluate: Take time to reflect on the feedback and advice given, and evaluate how you can apply it to your growth.

MENTOR:

• Voice Expectations: Be clear about your availability and what you can offer from the start.

• Visionary Guidance: Help your mentee define their goals and understand the steps needed to achieve them.

• Value Engagement: Take a sincere interest in your mentee’s growth and aspirations.

• Vitalize Growth: Encourage your mentee to take charge of their development, holding them accountable for their progress.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Let’s keep the VIBRANT vibes going!
